Both Pat Dye and Tommy Tubberville went 5-6 their first year at Auburn but for some reason that type of season for our current first year head coach, Gene Chizik, would be an utter disappointment for many Auburn fans. Doesn't Coach Chizik deserve the same consideration and if not, why?
Coach Chizik wasn't left a stable full of talent he was left a stable half full of talent, a talented 22 at best. This year Auburn has enough talent and depth to possibly win the MAC, WAC or Sunbelt conferences but Auburn is in the SEC, the toughest conference in the land. Wins this year, at times, will be a test of heart and toughness rather than speed and strength. If Auburn goes 8-4 this year Coach Chizik should be nominated for SEC coach of the year.
Last year, I got caught up in all the hate and disappointment, like most fans did, about what was going on with the football team. Bama was doing great and winning nationally televised games while we were in the midst of a locker room civil war. The 13-0 season, well that seemed like it was 100 years ago. That's old news now and five and nineteen or not Coach Chizik is our man and he's impressed me with everything he's done to date. He's worked hard, energized the recruiting process and has ended the division within the team and we've known who our QB is for almost a month now.
My plan for the season is to watch, support, try not to read anything negative and hope things get turned around as soon as possible. I've promised myself that lack of effort and stupid mistakes are the only things that's going to make me mad this year. With that said, since we have 56 freshmen playing I'll probably stay mad.
War Eagle and let's have some fun!!
